Think you’re too young to worry about cellulite? Well, think again. Your skin might look as smooth as butter right now, but it’s only a matter of time before it’s as lumpy as cottage cheese. Though it may seem that cellulite just appears, the initial changes in the dermal layer of skin that eventually cause the appearance of cellulite begin long before we see any visible changes to the skin’s surface.
Cellulite formation occurs in four phases, only three of which are visible to the eye. Over the next few days we will take each phase one by one, describing the changes occurring within the skin, and explaining how these changes cause the appearance of cellulite. The first phase (illustrated below) is invisible, and can begin any time after puberty.
Cellulite formation begins with the breakdown of collagen and elastin fibers in the dermis. This decreases the amount of support available for the other layers of the skin, as well as for the many structures within the dermal layer itself.
Consequently, blood and lymph vessels within the dermis start to break down, causing excess fluid and waste to build up. Additionally, the support that usually keeps the subcutaneous layer of fat in place weakens, and fat cells begin to clump together.
The next phase of the process, “Stage 1 Cellulite,” is the first visible phase of cellulite formation. We’ll discuss this phase in our next blog entry, but now is the time for you to take action—the earlier you address the changes that cause cellulite, the easier it is to treat. Here at the White Tea Med Spa, we offer two of the most effective treatments in the fight against cellulite: VelaShape and Endermologie.
LPG Endermologie is a full-body lymphatic massage that increases circulation and promotes the drainage of built-up fluids and wastes that cause the appearance of cellulite. VelaShape, named “the gold standard of noninvasive cellulite treatments” by Allure Magazine in June 2011, combines thermal energy, radiofrequencies, and massage to effectively diminish the appearance of cellulite while simultaneously contouring the treated area.
Cellulite isn’t an “inevitable” in today’s world – just an “inconvenience.” With our help, you can watch your cottage cheese skin melt back into skin that’s as smooth as butter. To find out what VelaShape and Endermologie can do for you, as well as the many other treatments and services offered here at the White Tea Med Spa in New York City, please visit our website or call us at 212-647-8919.
