With bikini season right around the corner, lately my eyes have been a bit more critical of the reflection I see in the mirror. While I have no qualms about imagining a a warm summer day at the beach as I sit here with half of my wardrobe layered on my frozen body, I would rather not even think about bathing suits because that means (eek! don’t say it!) it’s time to show some skin.
Instead of hanging onto your heaviest sweater (the one you dug out thanks to the polar vortex) like a security blanket, welcome spring and summer (the season of lighter fabrics and less clothes) with open arms and a killer silhouette. How? With VelaShape, of course!
I called Kirsy Pimentel, the Spa Director at The White Tea Med Spa, to answer some burning questions for me. Being the Spa Director and an experienced technician herself, I assumed she was tired of answering the same questions every day, so I was determined to ask her something unique and unusual. Doubtful that I achieved this, but I at least I learned a lot about VelaShape!
Take a look at her answers below:
What is Velashape?
VelaShape is an FDA approved treatment for the temporary reduction of the appearance of cellulite. It also great for body contouring and skin tightening.
Who is an ideal candidate?
Anyone who has visible cellulite that has a BMA under 30.
Is there anyone who shouldn’t receive this treatment?
People with cancer history, auto-immune disorders, BMI over 30, skin disorders, sensitivity to light or that are taking any medications that make their skin sensitive to light.
What is the difference between VelaShape and Endermologie?
Main difference is in the technology. VelaShape combines radio frequency, infrared light, rollers and vacuum; Endermologie is just vacuum and rollers. Another difference is that VelaShape is done “per area” whereas Endermologie is a full body treatment.
How long is each session of VelaShape?
20 Minutes per area but you can do multiple areas in one session. For example, 1 session (1 area) takes 20 minutes and 1 session (2 areas) take 40 minutes, etc.
What results should I expect to see?
Reduction in the appearance of cellulite, body contouring, skin tightening, smoother skin, better circulation.
How many sessions do I need to receive before I see results?
In general, it takes an average of 6-10 sessions depending on certain factors such as: the individual, the area that’s being treated, age, weight, life style and stage of cellulite, etc. Some people need more than 10 and the more you do the better it is because the treatments are cumulative.
Are the results permanent or do I need to do follow up treatments after I have reached my ideal look?
The results are not permanent and the amount of time it takes for the body to go back to its pre-VelaShape state depends on the individual. As a general guideline, monthly maintenance sessions are recommended to maintain the results.
Will it work if I don’t exercise or eat healthy?
Eating healthy and exercising is recommended for optimal results.
How does the treatment feel?
It feels like a warm mechanical massage.
Are there any negative side effects- visible or invisible?
Redness after each treatment is normal but it usually subsides right after the treatment. Also soreness is normal after the first few sessions until you build tolerance but it usually goes away within a couple of days after the treatment. Bruising is also normal after the first few sessions if the person is really sensitive but the more they get the treatment the less likely it will happen.
Is this a reputable treatment?
VelaShape first launched in 2007 and is a very popular treatment among celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Demi Moore, Britney Spears, Madonna, Sharon Stone, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Tyra Banks, and many others.
How long have you been performing this treatment?
We have been providing VelaShape treatments to our clients since 2008.
How do I get started with my treatment?
We recommend clients to come in for a free consultation to determine eligibility for the treatment and to go over medical history, how many areas they may need, and how many sessions they want.
